Alba Fucens, Massa d'Albe

Alba Fucens is the most famous ancient city of Abruzzo, one of the most enchanting and suggestive archaeological sites. The settlement, of great strategic interest, was the seat of a Latin colony founded in 304 BC.
The excavations, begun in 1949 by the University of Leuven (Belgium), have brought to light a monumental center with great impact. In the Civita Plan the spas, a thermopolium, the basilica, the macellum, the Hercules Sanctuary, a domus and a beautiful, perfectly intact amphitheater dating back to the middle of the 1st century AD are recognizable.
