One of the most spectacular resources of Sirente-Velino Regional Park and the whole Province of L'Aquila, Stiffe Caves are situated at 21 km from L'Aquila, along the road 261 called "Subequana", leading from San Demetrio né Vestini to Fontecchio.

An important example of subterranean karst phenomenon, Stiffe Caves have a particular feature making them unique in Italy: as a matter of fact, they can be technically defined an "active reappearing spring", meaning that they are crossed by a subterranean river leading visitors, along its 700 meters of length in the cave and with the 695m of height, outside the cavity.

Technical name: active reappearing spring.
