10 things to do or to see

1. The Gorges of Celano

The well known and wild canyon of Central Apennine

  • Where: Aielli - Celano (AQ)
  • Period: the path is to be avoided in case of heavy rains during the period of thaw and windy days, as it may be the danger of falling rocks.
  • Curiosity: possible meetings with numerous species of animals frequenting the deep valley, including the royal eagle, the royal owl, peregrine hawk, wildcat.

2. The Stiffe caves

A cave of rare beauty in the heart of Abruzzo

  • Where: San Demetrio de Vestini (AQ)
  • Period: during the period from November to April, due to the uncertain weather conditions, it is always advisable to call in advance.
  • Visiting hours: the Stiffe caves are opened daily from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 15.00 to 18.00. The cost of the ticket, which includes a guided tour of the cave and access to the Museum of Speleology is Euro 8,00.

7. The Faunistic Area of the Chamois

"Face to face" with the chamois

  • Where: Rovere of Rocca di Mezzo (AQ)
  • Info: the wildlife area is annexed to the Visit Centre of Chamois, which follows the following visiting hours:

    • Christmas Period and summer: every day from 11.00 to 13.00 and from 14.30 to 16.30;
    • During the rest of the year: on Saturdays from 14.30 to 16.30 and on Sundays from 11.00 to 13.00.
    • Upon request the opening is guaranteed even outside the specified hours

8. Slow ride in the Park among villages and medieval castles

  • Where: in the Aterno and Subequana Valleys along the Ippovia Park
  • Period: the whole year

9. Sebastiani Shelter

The most beautiful hike

  • Where: Colletto of Pezza (M. Velino)
  • Altitude: 2102 m.
  • Period: The shelter is opened from June to September. During the other months, is opened by appointment on weekends and special occasions
